Calcific Tendonitis
Calcium deposits in the shoulder tendons.
Sometimes the body deposits calcium in the rotator cuff tendons, causing excruciating pain. This is a chemical process, not mechanical wear. We use needle barbotage or shockwave therapy to break up the calcium.
Symptoms
- Sudden severe pain
- Pain at night
- Inability to move shoulder
- Acute onset
Conservative treatment
- Ultrasound-guided Barbotage (Lavarge)
- Shockwave Therapy
- Orthobiologic treatment
- Anti-inflammatories
- In some cases the deposits disappear on their own
When is surgery needed?
Arthroscopic removal only when the deposits are too hard to extract with a needle during barbotage.
