Patellar Dislocation & MPFL
Stabilizing the kneecap.
When the kneecap pops out, it tears the MPFL ligament. Biomechanical and anatomical diagnostics, as well as a thorough examination of the entire legs, are required for evaluation. We often perform lower limb X-rays, MRI, and rotational CT scans because patellar dislocation can have several separate or co-occurring causes.
Symptoms
- Kneecap slipping out
- Apprehension
- Pain sitting
- Swelling
Conservative treatment
- VMO strengthening
- McConnell Taping
- Hip stabilizer activation
- J-Brace
When is surgery needed?
With significant anatomical deviations from the norm, with habitual dislocations - usually MPFL reconstruction using the patient's own tendon and often combined with osteotomy.
