ACL Repair
Minimally invasive surgical repair of the torn ACL.
Arthroscopic primary repair is a minimally invasive technique that preserves the native ACL. Unlike traditional reconstruction, no grafts are harvested and no bone tunnels are drilled. By preserving the remnant ligament, native nerve endings and blood supply are maintained, promoting early healing and better functional outcomes. This purely surgical treatment is optimal within the first 3 weeks of injury, specifically for proximal avulsion of the ACL from the femur. A rapid MRI scan is crucial for qualification.
Symptoms
- Acute ACL tear (within 3 weeks)
- Proximal avulsion from femur
- Active lifestyle
Conservative treatment
- None - this requires prompt surgical intervention.
When is surgery needed?
When the criteria are met, arthroscopic primary ACL repair should always be the first choice, preserving the native ligament and its blood supply.
